Comparative and Superlative

Picture
When you compare two persons or two things, use the comparative form of the adjective. A lot of comparative adjectives end in -er. Use the superlative form of an adjective to compare three or more nouns. A lot of superlative adjectives end in -est.

You often add "the" before the superlative form, for example you say: Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.

With one-syllable adjectives ending in vowel + consonant, remember to double the final consonant before –er/–est.

With adjectives ending in y, you change the y to i and add er/ est.
