Speaking
Draw Pictures
A student stands in front of the class and the teacher gives him or her the marker and whispers a word (e.g. "happy"). The student then draws a picture with that word and the class tries the guess the correct word. When a student has guessed the right word a new student will stand in front of the class.
Another version of this game is that the teacher puts the students in pairs and gives each pair a large, blank sheet of paper. The students then in turns will draw faces with different emotions for their partners to guess.
Categorising Feelings
The teacher draws two columns on the whiteboard and puts the headings ‘good’ and ‘bad’ at the top of each column. Then the teacher asks the students to say different feelings and where to put the feeling, under good or bad.
Feelings' Sounds
The teacher puts the students in pairs. One student starts to make a noise to show a feeling, e.g. yawning for tired, sighing for bored, growling for angry and groaning for disappointed etc. The other student tries to guess the correct feeling. When he or she has guessed correct feeling then they switch.
Stories
The students write their own stories using as many adjectives of feelings as they can. When they have done that they blank the adjectives of feelings out and read their stories to their classmates. The classmates now have to guess the missing adjectives of feelings.
Feelings Definitions Game
Put the students in pairs. Hand out flashcards to one student in each pair. The student with the flashcard describes the feeling to the other student, e.g. “It is how an elephant feels when it sees a mouse” for “frightened” and “It is how I feel in biology class” for “confused”. They can't say the word on the card or other parts of the same word (e.g. “anger” for “angry”).
