The Definite Article

The definite article the is the most frequent word in English.

The is known as the definite article because it indicates something specific.

Examples:
Can we go to the zoo tomorrow?
(The zoo is specific. It is known to the speaker and the listener.)

Can we go to a zoo tomorrow?
(The zoo is unspecific. The speaker doesn't care which one.)
